Final Day in London

Final Day in London

Free and easy day. Woke up at 8am. Clear emails and updated the front page. Had my breakfast in the room (muffin, 99p). Checked out and was ready for my day of sight seeing at 10am.

Took the tube from Marble Arch to Bond Street and switch to the Jubilee Line to get to Westminster. Got out of the station near the Cabinet War Rooms. Walk across Westminster Bridge to see Big Ben and Westminster Hall. All right … not exactly impressed.

Walked along Thames River. A long queue has formed for the London Eye. Actually thought it was quite an eye sore. Now I can kinda imagine how ugly it’s going to be when the Singapore one is ready.

On the way, went to the Clive Prison Museum, Tate Modern, Southwark Cathedral, Borough Market before reaching the City Hall and finally Tower Bridge. (“London Bridge is falling down … falling down” … got it all wrong … it’s Tower Bridge!) Went up the bridge for the exhibition about the history and the engine room. Not bad, was quite fun (except being alone makes taking pictures really difficult.).

After the bridge, went across Thames and walked past the Tower of London. Din want to visit it as my leg was aching big time by then.

So I was done with the area by 3pm. Was planning to take the tube to end my day at Harrods. But since I was going to switch train at Green Park, decided to get out and take a look at the Buckingham Palace as well. Green Park was really nice. Quite a lot of people were just lazing around on the grass, reading books and enjoying the sun. The walk to Buckingham took about 10 minutes. Sad to say, not worth it at all. Nothing at Buckingham, except for the high fences. And not forgetting being spotted by fellow Singaporeans. No idea why they were so excited to see another Singaporean, I wasn’t.

So I was done with Buckingham in less than 30 mins. Walked back to the Tube station and went down to Knightsbridge. This was supposed to be the highlight of the day. (I planned it that way). But damn should I be disappointed? Food Hall, Egyptian Hall, Luxury Restroom, halls after halls selling everything and anything …. Overrated! I am happier at Mustafa anytime.
